Long hours of discussions and back-and-forth regarding ways to rework and improve Hobbyist and Mentor had us come to the realization that the functions of these two Classes are either better served as becoming General Features, or being removed outright.
Mentor and Hobbyist are now "generalized", as below:
Prerequisites: Two of Charm, Intimidate, Intuition, or Pokémon Education at Novice Rank
Daily x3 – Extended Action
Target: A Pokémon
Effect: The target learns a Move from its Egg or Tutor list (following the Tutoring Restrictions based on the target’s level) or any move on its level-up list learned at X Level or lower, where X is the target’s current Level plus the sum of your two highest Skill Ranks among this Features’s prerequisite Skills. Moves from the target’s Level-Up List or those from the Tutor List marked with (N) count as if they were “natural” for organizational purposes.
Your Pokémon do not require any Features to learn Moves from TMs or HMs.
All Moves taught through Tutoring Features (Ex: Mentoring) have prerequisites:
» Pokémon under Level 20 may only learn Moves of an At-Will or EOT Frequency with a max Damage Base of 7.
» Pokémon from Level 20 to 29 may only learn Moves with up to a Scene Frequency and max Damage Base of 9.
» Pokémon at Level 30 and above have no restrictions when being taught Moves through Tutors. This applies to Inheritance Moves as well. If a Pokémon were to have Heal Pulse as its only Inheritance Move, that Move would be gained at Level 30 despite the Level 20 slot for Inheritance Moves being empty.
Prerequisites: Level 10, or Two of Charm, Intimidate, Intuition, or Pokémon Education at Adept Rank
Daily – Extended Action
Target: A Pokémon
Effect: The target gains any three of the following Poké Edges: Skill Improvement, Advanced Mobility, or Capability Training. The target may gain Poké Edges this way even if they do not meet the prerequisites, however, they must still follow other limitations; Advanced Mobility can only improve a Movement Capability once, for example. A Pokémon may be targeted only once ever by Tutelage.
Prerequisites: Level 15 or one of Charm, Intimidate, Intuition, or Pokémon Education at Expert Rank
At-Will – Extended Action
Target: Your Pokémon
Effect: The target gains 3 Tutor Points. A Pokémon may be targeted by Limit Breaking only once.
Prerequisites: Level 20 or two of Charm, Intimidate, Intuition, or Pokémon Education at Expert Rank
Static
Effect: Your Pokémon’s base Move List Limit is increased by +1 (Reminder: The default Move List Limit is 6). When either of the two qualifying prerequisite skills reaches Master Rank, your Pokémon may have up to 4 Moves from their Move List come from TMs or Move Tutors.
GM NOTE: Giving Players Pokémon and Re-Specing Pokémon
When you (as a GM) make a Pokémon available to the party, it is strongly advised that in every case, you allow the player to reallocate stats, and determine which Nature, Abilities, and Moves the Pokémon should have upon them catching or receiving the Pokémon.
Generally speaking, this strong recommendation is to minimize the adversarial GM/Player relationship that the PTU Core Rules frequently fostered with its rules and guidance over the years. So to new GMs, this is what we recommend. Experienced GMs and players can choose to roll with "set as they were when caught" that the video games do, but that requires an explicit understanding of the rules and mechanics of PTR, and explicit and understandable consent between the GM and their players about those terms.
Prerequisites: Novice General Education and Perception
Static
Effect: You gain three Skill Edges for which you qualify. These must be Skill Edges that Rank Up a Skill.
Note: all other Features from Hobbyist were removed, as the updates to Trainer Progression rendered them unnecessary.
